We kick off our second Kaptain Karl tribute episode with this song Karl sent me a demo for in February of 2021. He was just playing a train beat on a cajon and singing. I loved it and transcribed the melody very carefully. It was slightly different for every verse and it would (will?) be interesting to see how the song would (will?) go if (when?) Karl develops it further himself.

In the meantime, I codified the three different melody variations into one uber-melody and put chords underneath it. I sampled his cajon playing and made it a duet between two people who think they are trains.

Then I re-did it as a slow, single voice version. I love it either way. Great job, Karl!

If you want to ask Karl to finish his own, divergently evoled version of this song, tell him here:

Lyrics:

I'm a train
And you're a train
We're rollin' side by side
Through the woods and on the shore
They don't make tracks like this no more
Running, running two by two
Built them here for me and you.

I'm a train
And you're a train
We're screamin' down the line.
Underneath the stars of blue
Like the way they used to do
Engine, Engine, fire and roar
Back since eighteen forty-four

I'm a train
And you're a train
We're fixed and trimmed down right
Cities, towns
and farm and field
Right of way we cannot yield
Driving, driving steam by smoke
Glory be and Okey-doke

'Cuz I'm a train
And you're a train
I'm a train
And you're a train
I'm a train
And you're a train
We're both trains
