Notes from the author (Andy):
Tale is from 1991, one of the first songs I wrote for Lucky Dog. I don't think we ever did a 'studio' version but there are a lot of live recordings. Pretty much all of my Lucky Dog songs have a 7sus4 chord in them. This one has two!

Notes from the performer of this version (Memphis):
When I sit back and think on my struggle to understand the concept of "style features" during my three semester slog through Music History, I wish wish WISH I could take that class over again with an adult's focus and understanding. Style features of Andy's songs include, but are not limited to:

-Catchy, syncopated guitar chord patterns
-Hooky melodies that are fun to sing
-Lyrics of self-recrimination
-Suspensions and additions to many of the chords beyond simple root-third-fifth "cowboy" chords

These are some of the elements of Andy's music that I look at as defining and elevating traits. But more importantly, I reacted to these songs at a sub-brain level and just really dug them the first time I listened to them. They were a gateway to the music of my adopted (and yet also ancestral) home, Minnesota.

Lyrics:

When I sit back and think
of all the stupid things I've done
I don't wanna trust myself at all
Somebody take some notes
somebody write it down
Somebody catch me when I fall

Somebody give me an explanation
Or is it my own tale that I'm chasin'?

When we went down
to the water for a swim
I held my breath and I jumped right in
Once I started sinkin' there was
no one to be found
She got her feet wet, and I got drowned!

Somebody give me an explanation
Or is it my own tale that I'm chasin'?

When I sit back and think
of all the stupid things I've done
I don't wanna trust myself at all
Somebody take some notes
somebody tell me why
Somebody catch me when I fall

Na Na na na Na na na...
